div class="ExternalClass6F54B09BB1DF4E05AA2DE024ACBBB90D"pIt’s no secret that I am thrilled with the new social features of SharePoint 2010. I am most excited about the new Profile Picture handling. I strongly believe that the more we can show the faces of our colleagues to one another the more connected we will feel. Clearly Microsoft feels that way as witnessed by the many features that make use of the Profile Image like the Activity Feed and Colleagues list. /p pa href="http://blogs.catapultsystems.com/matthew/Media/WindowsLiveWriter/ConfiguringProfileImageExportinSharePoin_71C9/image_4.png"img style="border-right-width:0px;display:inline;border-top-width:0px;border-bottom-width:0px;border-left-width:0px" title="image" border="0" alt="image" src="http://blogs.catapultsystems.com/matthew/Media/WindowsLiveWriter/ConfiguringProfileImageExportinSharePoin_71C9/image_thumb_1.png" width="617" height="207"/a/p pa href="http://blogs.catapultsystems.com/matthew/Media/WindowsLiveWriter/ConfiguringProfileImageExportinSharePoin_71C9/image_2.png"img style="border-right-width:0px;display:inline;border-top-width:0px;border-bottom-width:0px;border-left-width:0px" title="image" border="0" alt="image" src="http://blogs.catapultsystems.com/matthew/Media/WindowsLiveWriter/ConfiguringProfileImageExportinSharePoin_71C9/image_thumb.png" width="292" height="375"/a /p p /p h2Exchange and Outlook/h2 pWhat about other applications like Outlook and Exchange? Outlook 2010 includes the Outlook Social Connector to present the social connections that the user has to the other actors in the conversation. The images in the OSC come from the users contacts and Active Directory. In this example Kobe’s picture is in Willa’s contacts but Ruby and Willa’s pictures are not. The next image shows the empty thumbnailPhoto attribute on Willa’s AD record. If the desire is to have the User Profile pictures synchronized from SharePoint back to AD, SharePoint 2010 can do that thanks in large part to the architectural decision by the Product Group to use Forefront Identity Manager to perform the Profile Synchronization./p pa href="http://blogs.catapultsystems.com/matthew/Media/WindowsLiveWriter/ConfiguringProfileImageExportinSharePoin_71C9/image_8.png"img style="border-right-width:0px;display:inline;border-top-width:0px;border-bottom-width:0px;border-left-width:0px" title="image" border="0" alt="image" src="http://blogs.catapultsystems.com/matthew/Media/WindowsLiveWriter/ConfiguringProfileImageExportinSharePoin_71C9/image_thumb_3.png" width="640" height="394"/a /p pimg style="border-right-width:0px;display:inline;border-top-width:0px;border-bottom-width:0px;border-left-width:0px" title="thumbnailPhoto attribute missing" border="0" alt="thumbnailPhoto attribute missing" src="http://blogs.catapultsystems.com/matthew/Media/WindowsLiveWriter/ConfiguringProfileImageExportinSharePoin_71C9/image_15.png" width="361" height="480" /p h2Configure Profile Image Export/h2 ol liStart with understanding the whole process: a href="http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ee721049(office.14).aspx" target="_blank"Configure profile synchronization (SharePoint 2010)/a /li liIf you have already configured the connection to AD all you have to do is add the permissions to the a href="http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkId=47854" target="_blank"User Profile Service account in Active Directory/a for strongCreate All Child Objects/strong. /li liNext, in strongCentral Administration/strong, go to the strongUser Profile Service Application/strong an in thestrong People/strong Section choose strongManage User Properties/strong. /li liLocate the strongPicture/strong property and hover-click strongEdit/strong. /li liIn the strongAdd new mapping /strongsection choose the appropriate connection to Active Directory (mine is DHT) choose the strongAttribute thumbnailPhoto/strong and set the strongDirection/strong to strongExport/strong.
