Bose IE2 Audio Headphones
Sat, Feb 19th 2011 3:23p   Curt Stone
I had some extra $$’s that my wife didn’t know about.  :)  So I indulged in an expensive pair of headphones.  I’ve purchased several pairs of head phones over the past year in search of something better.  I have a pair of bluetooth Sony headphones.  They sound great and are wireless.  Issue with these is that they fall off if your moving around at all.  I have a pair of SkullCandy over ear also.  They sound ok but they hurt my ears after long use.  I gave them to my co [read] Keywords: wireless

Successful Kickoff of Our Mastering XPages Book Study
Sat, Feb 19th 2011 6:42a   Curt Stone
Very excited with our first Skype conference call discussing the new Mastering XPages book.  I enjoyed listening to everyone’s story in Lotus land.  Our stories are often similar.  It’s cool when you meet and share with people in this community.   We had 6 participating and a few more that are interested in next week.  Roy, thanks for troubleshooting and all for helping me get up-to-speed with Skype.  Screen sharing did not work on conference call but was able to use one-on-one [read] Keywords: domino lotus xpages community email skype twitter

I’m pleased with the interest in a group of us Loti interested in learning XPages via the new Mastering XPages book released by IBM Press.   My book is on order since Monday and email says it’s shipped.  Yippee!!!  Hearing some feedback that people are reviewing it with good marks. Last night, I made an attempt to find y’all who’ve shown interest on Skype.  I’ve found a few but need you, if your interested in this group, to email me your Skype name.  Curt.Ston [read] Keywords: domino ibm xpages email skype

Mastering XPages Book Study Group Starting
Mon, Feb 14th 2011 7:42a   Curt Stone
Ed Brill blogged about the new IBM Press book Mastering XPages.  I purchased my copy today using the discount mentioned in Ed’s post.  There was another promotional code mentioned in the comments but this did not work for me.  Final cost came to $46.14 which included free regular shipping. I’d like to begin the book study group this week if possible.  This week we could get set up on Skype, get acquainted and get the book.  We can discuss dates and times for our weekly get toget [read] Keywords: ibm notes xpages email java skype

Is there a Domino perspective in Eclipse?
Thu, Feb 10th 2011 11:22a   Curt Stone
Is there a Domino perspective in Eclipse?  If not, wouldn’t it be cool to be able to move from Java to Domino within the same IDE?  Is this already in the plans for future?  We could access our server and .nsf.  Sweet. [read] Keywords: domino lotus notes eclipse java server

Anyone interested in a Tech Book Study Group: Java or XPages?
Tue, Jan 18th 2011 9:02a   Curt Stone
I’m having some excitement and success at my day job with this idea.  I’m leading a Java book study group.  The book we’re studying is Murach’s Java SE 6 .  As a group, we’ve completed 6 chapters.  I’m excited to have just completed chapter 12. Why did I choose this book over so many others?  I’ve read Head First Java cover to cover as well as the exercises.  It’s an excellent book and has a unique style of it’s own.  That being said, [read] Keywords: domino lotus notes xpages application applications community development java skype

My Winning Music Service is …
Sun, Jan 9th 2011 11:23a   Curt Stone
For the past year, I’ve experimented with a few music services. Here’s what I’ve experienced. I bought my first smartphone early last year. Motorola Droid.   With that, I wanted to try Rhapsody.  At first, I was excited with the size of the catalog.   To have all that music, new and past, was fun.  It’s funny how when you have so many choices, you don’t know what to play.  I enjoyed trying new music as it’s released.  I did begin to feel I didn’t n [read] Keywords: application bug interface ipod network

Why I Love Lotusphere
Fri, Dec 31st 2010 6:23a   Curt Stone
It’s that time of year when the intensity of my feelings around Lotusphere magnify.  You can feel it too.  The anticipation of the greatest tech event of the year. Some thoughts on why I’ve loved it so much.  (Past tense because, unless something changes, I may have seen my last Lotusphere) ): Start with a somewhat superficial reason – It’s held in my favorite place in the world! When I went to my first Lotusphere in 1999, it was my first time in Florida and Disney W [read] Keywords: collaboration domino lotus lotusphere sametime blogging office

No Days Off For Home Help Desk/Support
Sun, Dec 26th 2010 8:19a   Curt Stone
When your the one who’s fixed computer issues for someone outside of the day job, there’s no days off in home computer support.  Christmas day is no exception and maybe even one of the busiest for some of us.  With new gadgets, there always seems to be some issue to deal with. This Christmas, it was my daughter’s new iTouch.  I spent part of the mourning learning I could not work with my new iPod Shuffle.  Seems Apple choose to not be backward compatible and I need to upgra [read] Keywords: apple ipod laptop mac microsoft network

Which Path Should I Take?
Thu, Dec 16th 2010 5:39a   Curt Stone
It’s a question I’ve asked many times before and one I suspect I’ll continually ask till I’m 6 feet under. Which Path Should I Take? When I was ready to make a change 13 years ago, I looked at learning Oracle Forms or Lotus Notes development.  I saw both avenues as opportunities for positive growth.  My company was heavy in Oracle Forms and I felt I had a good chance getting a job in a dept that was hiring.  I came in second place to my displeasure.  Looking back, I&# [read] Keywords: domino lotus lotusphere notes xpages application applications community consulting development eclipse java mysql office oracle outlook sql

Book Review: The Power – Rhonda Byrne
Sat, Sep 4th 2010 10:44a   Curt Stone
My wife and I both enjoyed the first edition of this ‘theme’/book, The Secret.  I may have my doubts on the mysticism about “The Law of Attraction”, but no doubt that your thoughts direct your future.  I believe there is great power in determining what you want and intentionally focusing on these thoughts. You’ll see and hear things you might otherwise ignore.   Your more likely to act on these things if you know they’ll move you to where you want to go. I [read] Keywords:

Eternally Grateful to Lotus Notes
Tue, Aug 31st 2010 6:44a   Curt Stone
My youngest son turns 15 years old tomorrow.  I’ve been reflecting on the past.  15 years ago I was a bit scared.  I had 2 kids that were 4 and 2 years old.  I had a decent job that I enjoyed and my wife worked at the same company.  I knew my wife would not go back to work after Ben was born.  How would we make it on one salary?  My prayers were intense and answered.  I prayed that I could make a living to support this large family.  I had no idea it would be Lotus Software.  I a [read] Keywords: lotus lotusphere notes notes client application applications community oracle

Relaxing Weekend and Earth Oven
Sun, Aug 29th 2010 9:15p   Curt Stone
The weather was amazing this weekend.  I got a few chores done, walked/played with dogs, read and made chicken, ribs and bread. Had a couple beers too….ahhh. It’s been a while and I finally had a chance to fire up the earth oven today.  I grabbed one of my favorite bread books from library called “Artisan Bread in Five Minutes a Day” I’ve made this before and it’s great.  What’s great about it is the technique.  There is no kneading required.  IR [read] Keywords:

How I lost 20 lbs
Sat, Aug 28th 2010 8:15a   Curt Stone
C’mon!!!  You all know how to lose weight.  I believe it was Howard Stern who said it something like this, “Shut your trap”.   The formula is easy to memorize but difficult in practice. You have to burn more calories than you shove down your pie hole. From that understanding, it’s strategies to make this happen. Keys to my success: I joined the fitness center at work back in February.  My company offered a free 6 month membership when we moved a bunch of us from a s [read] Keywords:

Would you encourage your kid to a career in IT?
Fri, Aug 27th 2010 6:13a   Curt Stone
My Senior in high school does not know what to do with the rest of her life.  Welcome to the real world.  I’m currently pondering the same question.  Material for another blog post.  My wife recently explained this to me.  I tried to have this discussion with my daughter, but she just rolled her eyes.  We had discussed just last fall that she was interested in Nursing.  I told her to reach high and think about being a Doctor.  I then just recently heard that she’s turned sour [read] Keywords: networking
