Tue, Mar 27th 2012 7:12a Victor Toal I just got a mail from IBM support on the Sametime Proxy Server 8.5.2 IFR1 fix OBEN-8SDLGS that is mandatory for awareness between Connections 3.0.1 FP1 and Sametime. It appears this HF was recalled (not sure what he exact problem is) which explains why I have not been able to get awareness to work with Connections 3.0.1.1 – no mater what I do.
That there is no updated, specific documentation for Connections 3.0.1.1 and ST awareness is not a good sign either but that is why I opened a [read] Keywords: connections

Linux Kernel 3.3 Released, will support Android Apps

I often set up servers to run off-line maintenance on dB and often have servers running 32bit Domino on 64bit Windows. I have not yet run into a case where I noticed the additional errors that might pop up but is it good to now that I can ignore them. I like my off-line maintenance routines and do not want to have to change them.

It is a CentOS server and it came pre-configured with SELinux (well, that is a given) but also with logwatch turned on and set to send mail. BES Errors – Why is my server restarting?

Notes on Linux: Run a compact from the OS
Sun, Nov 21st 2010 3:13p Victor Toal I have been pretty busy as of late, hence my reduced blogging – but this is one I come across as a question quite frequently from people who are new to Notes/Domino on Linux.
On the Windows OS it is quite simple to run a compactor task from a command prompt or a batch file. However, when on Linux you will often be met by the following error message:
error while loading shared libraries: libnotes.so: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory

Blackberry Express for Domino – Finally here
Fri, Nov 5th 2010 11:31a Victor Toal I am not the first one to find this, I actually only noticed after going through my feeds and stumbling on it in Volker Weber’s blog . IT IS FINALLY HERE! We are now officially no longer the unwanted, redheaded stepchildren of RIM – we have our own BES Express server! Go here …

Started New Project
Mon, Oct 25th 2010 10:27a Victor Toal I just started a new project this morning and had to bid the DC area farewell as of last Friday.
Some of the really nice changes I enjoy are being able to sleep at home every night, dropping off my son at school on my way to work and Westchester/White Plains commuter traffic.

TDI 7.1 training in the UK – Maidenhead

There is not allot of TDI training to be found in the wild unless you request it specifically (at least here in the US) unless you are looking for free on-line tutorials etc. (e.g.: Consultantinyourpocket.com webcasts etc.) Reading the ad this training looks rather detailed and I know one of the the “blokes” who is involved in running the course. Domino on Linux: Upgrading to Domino 8.5.2 trouble - FP are the cluprits

I did run into some issue with upgrading servers but because working my 3/4 pitch swing to the green looked so much more important to me (the weather was GORGEOUS!!) I put it off until later.

Domino 8.5.1 Technote – Fixup can crash your server

- well, I’ll admit it – I asked somebody else in IBM to clarify some items for me and am now plagiarizing that good deed on my bog – THANKS CAROL!!
First of all – this only applies to Domino 8.5.1 on Windows, and it makes no difference which FP you are running since it was not fixed in FP4 nor will a fix be included in FP5 either, it is fixed in 8.5.2 though – you guys are safe.

I had just seen an entry n the Quick support forums yesterday with somebody asking what the correct upgrade path for a specific version of Quickr/Quickplace to the most current version was. I had to admit even though I work with Quickr frequently I was not able to answer immediately. Domino 8.5.2 with SMTP HF is in
Thu, Sep 9th 2010 8:27a Victor Toal Finally! I spent all of 25 minutes yesterday to upgrade my main Domino server to 8.5.2 with the new HF for SMTP that came out yesterday. I waited on this fix and all I can say is that the upgrade (from 8.5.1 FP4) was quick, simple and even the old HW that my server runs on had no issue with it. What took the longest was the download of the Domino install (15 minutes) and everything else was quick.

I had some serious Java issues on Red Hat that I did not want to work through so I just decided to go cold turkey and install Ubuntu 10.04 and just run with with it. Since I always kept all my volatile data on a secondary disk it was rather simple, I just downladed the iso file, burned a CD and installed over the existing Red Hat installation – after popping out the data drive so I d [read] Keywords: domino

Domino: DAOS Transactional logging error – “…Log file is full” results in server hang
Thu, Aug 12th 2010 10:23a Victor Toal While perusing the IBM site and reviewing new technotes and SPRs I came across this one: 1440744
Basically it pertains to DAOS and transactional logging and a potential issue. The work-around is classic – call IBM and see if they can create a HF for you … wonderful. The reported SW version is 8.5 and the wording is
“…is expected to be fixed in an upcoming release of Lotus Notes/Domino”
